' I have actually discovered that books can transport kids to another place.' Judith has been offering as a bedside reader at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust because 2003. After retiring from mentor, Judith wished to continue to utilize her storytelling abilities to assist children who are poorly. 'I had constantly taken pleasure in checking out to the kids in school at the end of the day. You might see them visibly relax and be taken in by the story. I believed this may also apply to kids in hospital. I offer on the children's oncology wards in the medical facility. I have seen the interruption reading a story can do to support the personnel. The children are little heroes. To witness their courage is a privilege.' Thank you for your compassion and care Judith. Mark joined the NHS in his 30s after leaving his family's business without any official certifications, however a drive to make a difference. He began as a psychological health assistance worker and went on to train as a general nurse. He qualified at 37 and spent the next twenty years gradually rising. He even went back to work in the exact same medical facility ward he was born in, taking on the role of ward supervisor. Today, he's the Associate Director of Nursing at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. He helps others advance in their careers, supporting staff to lead, grow, and grow. ' I tried to change off a bedside light and felt like something wasn't ideal with me. I knew immediately it was a stroke.' In July 2023, after an active vacation kayaking and walking, Bob suddenly had a stroke. He was zipped air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he invested 4 weeks fixing up. 'I used the gym often and did neurorehabilitation online (NROL)'. NROL is a group rehab programme for people who have had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. 'I had a structured timetable which gave me something to eagerly anticipate each week - socially, mentally and emotionally.' Bob thanked NHS staff for 'the wonderful assistance' and the continuous physiotherapy he got. Well done Bob and fantastic work team! Early recognition of stroke symptoms can conserve lives. ' Working together with nurses and seeing the distinction they made inspired me to believe, 'I might do that!" Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who began her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she joined Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve clients in Hertfordshire. 'I loved assisting people and finding out about the body, so nursing just felt right.' Sharon reflects. Sharon has actually operated in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy among others, revealing the large variety of areas in which nurses make a distinction. 'Truly, I can't think of a location where nurses don't make an impact in some form,' Sharon admits. On why her role is special, Sharon explains, 'The care, kindness, and empathy we bring make the nursing function distinct. As client advocates, we help guarantee their journey is supported, informed, and truly significant.' There are more than 50 different types of nursing roles available in the NHS.
